Julie Mehretu is an american artist well known for her acrylic layered paintings on canvas. These are overlaid with pencil pen or ink markings. Through her artistic expression she is able to convey a compression of time, space and place. Her paintings consist of layering of architectural features, charts, building plans and city maps seen from different perspectives.
She is ables us to see where gridded cities become flattened like many layers of urban graffiti. Her work represents the speed of cities that are found all throughout the globe.
